Reviews/Feedback:
Ranitidine: I get heartburn caused more from my condition than from food. There were times that I had "breakthrough" heartburn even after using prevacid. I generally don't even use the prevacid now. I do try to not eat things that will cause heartburn but I still get heartburn often. I take the ranitidine often, but not every time I have heartburn. There are some times when I will take one or two Tums to get a jumpstart against the burning.
Ranitidine: I take a 150mg tablet in the morning before or during breakfast and then another at lunch. This combination prevents heartburn throughout the day. Late night dinners may produce heartburn, often I'll take a tablet prior or immediately after as prevention. Also I elevated my bed about 2" at the head to prevent what had been fairly frequent events of stomach acid somehow working its way into my mouth at night. This drug and the elevated bed has reduced this to a very rare occurence, and again often associated with late evening meals if I do not take a tablet in the evening.
Ranitidine: diagnosed with acid reflux by a gastroscopy. Prescribed the ranitidine originally. When mentioning the occassional acidic taste in the morning, the doctor changed me to Prevacid which took away both the heartburn and the taste. But when I looked at the package insert through the Prevacid website this showed more carcinogenic results than the ranitidine which is next to none. So I am taking only ranitidine from now on.
Ranitidine: fecal material seems to harden and feces become difficult to pass and form fecal balls and must "strain" to pass. have taken continuously for a couple of year. This is an 83 year old female (my wife)who has a marginally healthy immune system very susceptable to exposure to respiratory enviornment that deviates from the norm. as long as we remain "at home" she O.K.--- go to a restaurant --- two days later she starts coughing. It takes about a couple of weeks to recover. she has taken flu vaccine annually and has had the pneumonia shot in the past 2 or 3 years.
Ranitidine: Acid reflux, burning real bad and I felt almost like I was having a heart attack it really has helped me a lot. I recommend to try it if you have this problem.
Ranitidine: not on long enough
Ranitidine: Long time heartburn sufferer. Very concerned about long term use and side effects.
Ranitidine: works better than anything else ive had so far
Ranitidine: take 2-3 times per day to aviod reflux acid. this is most effective prior to eating so take 30 minutes before eating or drinking alcohol will help to aviod heartburn
Ranitidine: I was prescribed the 300 version of this, but found it to be much more unpleasant than the 150 OTC version. I had no side effects with the 150 version, but am having constipation with the 300mg. I thought drinking a lot of water with the pill would help this but a) it doesn't seem to and b) you are supposed to take this before bed, but I don't want to drink 10oz ov water before I go to bed. I am going to stick to the OTC, but that is not covered by insurance.

Drug Uses

Ranitidine is used for treating certain conditions that cause your body to make too much stomach acid (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). It is also used to treat ulcers of the small intestine that have not responded to other treatment.

How to use

Use Ranitidine as directed by your doctor.

Take Ranitidine by mouth with or without food.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Ranitidine.
Drug Class and Mechanism

Ranitidine is an H2-receptor blocker. It works by blocking the action of histamine in the stomach. This reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes. Reducing stomach acid helps to reduce heartburn, to heal irritation of the esophagus, and to heal ulcers of the stomach or intestines.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Ranitidine and are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Storage

Store Ranitidine between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Ranitidine out of the reach of children and away from pets.
