Reviews/Feedback:
Prilosec: I take 20mg everyday before I eat dinner. To me the side effects have been worth it I don't believe I would be here today if I wasn't taking this medication. My dad died of stomach cancer. My brother and sister exhibit the gerd symptoms and are also on the drug now.
Prilosec: I worry about taking a pill for acid reflux because I read a study that says that this type of medication can also leach the calcium out of your system. I am 49 and have a family history of osteoporosis so this concerns me. I have been tested for osteoporosis and my bone density and strength is within normal limits.
Prilosec: Not sure I understand this request! I was prescribed a daily dose for 28 days but use on an as needs basis.
Prilosec: Losec tablets contain a medicine called omeprazole. This belongs to a group of medicines called "proton pump inhibitors" They work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces. If you suffer with acid reflux, this means that the stomach produces too much acid which can cause pain and burning and often travels up your throat causing damage to it.
Prilosec: I didn't have usual GERD symptoms of heart burn. I was skeptical that my stomach was producing too much acid. I tried other home remedies like drinking diluted apple cider after a meal that seemed to work at times but didn't always. After my doctor prescribed prilosec, it took several weeks before relief was complete. I am still taking the medication but have scaled back to 20 mg just once a day.
Prilosec: Have been taking this for years but is anyone else taking 4 pills a day (2 twice a day) like me per Dr prescription? I worry about long term effects of this dosage, but when I try to reduce to 3 or 2 pills/day my heartburn comes back.
Prilosec: I ve been having ocassional heartburn for 12 years, hust a few weeks ago got really bad that had to go to DR, originally got ACIHEX which worked on second day but at refill time found out that its 185 $ for 30 pills (no insurance)Tried prilosec cause its cheaper n took 5 days to kick, it really helped, no more food stuck in esophagus sensation or really bad heartburn that even had to pull over while driving, but also exercising more n checking my diet, eating slow helped too, I lost 15 pounds already, had the lightheaded n stomach cramps side effect too in first week but i did not know about the anemia, i better check that n have an endoscopy, anybody knows if its safe to take 2 tabs a day?? thx
Prilosec: Prilosec OTC is darned effective when taken as directed. It doesn't take effect immediately, so you really begin to feel better in the next 1-2 days. The drug is a bit expensive, but P&G puts out coupons on a pretty regular basis. I think this is also covered if you have a Health Savings Account set up to may for out-of-pocket medical costs and co-pays.
Prilosec: I have been taking Prilosec OTC for more than 10 years and have been very satisfied. Switched to generic version about a year ago and it seems to work just as well. However, after reviewing some of the comments about weight gain, I'm beginning to wonder if mine is a side effect. I workout daily and have most of my adult life but in recent years have gained about 30 pounds. Until reading some of the comments on here, I assumed it was age and a slowing metabolism but now I'm suspicious of side effects.
Prilosec: Diagnosed to have chronic acid reflux via endoscopy. Test showed irritation and scarring in the esophagus. Doctor prescribed Prilosec to be taken twice daily while symptoms exist. I have been taking prilosec OTC for two years with no problems. I have reduced the dose to once a day and I take the drug at the same time every morning. The overall results have been very good. No more sleepless nights due to acid reflux. I can eat most anything without having heartburn later.
