Mevacor: I have just begun to use this medication only one month,I'm excited by the write up concerning the effectiness of it. Looking forward to the results!
Mevacor: I have been on mevacor for 4-6months I dont know the effectiveness of it until I get a lipid recheck on the 5th of feb .
Mevacor: Experience some muscle weakness and pain, plus tiredness and loss of energy.
Mevacor: Has helped somewhat.
Mevacor: I have been on a daily 20mg regime for 15months. Though I exercised regularly and vigourously for years it became clear that exercise and diet was insufficient in controlling my cholesterol level. My latest lipid results indicated a more than 30% drop in my LDL so my internist and I are very pleased with the results. And I might add that there leaves no doubt that genetics play a significant role in my particular case. I am feeling terrific! (do yoga, cardio, strength and resistance training, eat omega 3 foods and adhere to healthy eating habits)
Mevacor: Zocor gave me body aches. Mevacor does the trick for me and I have responded well.
Mevacor: My doctor first had me on a more expensive statin med, which had no generic, and after my research, I found this Lovastatin, which is a generic to be just as effective. Have been taking it for 3 years. Doctor approves! Helps me not to reach my Medicare Plan D gap and still does the job for $4.00 per month!
Mevacor: Most Affordable statin! Available as generic. It is not as powerful as the newer statins, which may be a good thing if you would like to reduce LDL but you are concerned about side effects. It's been around the longest and is the most thoroughly tested for safety.
Unfortunately I was in the 1% group of people who have muscle twitches with it. The spasms started within a couple days of therapy. I also felt a nice all around "buff" feeling as if I'd been working out at the gym. After first I ignored the twitches, but they increased in frequency until they were occuring more than once per minute, all over my body, and around the clock. When I felt muscle pulling in my chest this scared the crap out of me!! I discontinued for fear of the known risk of muscle wasting and myalgia with this and other statins. I tried SIX different drugs in the statin family (Zocor, Crestor, Lipitor, Prevachol, Lescol, lovastatin etc) and had the same symptoms. Finally switched to a different family of cholesterol reducers, called fibrates. Click on my Profile for more info.
After several days on ANY statin, if you notice increased muscle twitching or unusual soreness in muscles that never were a problem before, immediately get a blood test called a CK level. CK stands for creatine kinase, an enzyme that leaks out of damaged muscle into the blood. When CK levels are elevated in the blood, it usually means muscle is being destroyed by some abnormal process.
